Stereogum's 100 Favorite Songs Of 2019

Within the macro tradition that is year-end list season, we at Stereogum have carved out our own micro tradition: Every December, instead of publishing a staff list of the year’s best tracks, we present a bunch of personally selected top-10 lists from our staffers and contributors.

The 50 Best Albums Of 2019

For many of us, 2019 has been a year of flux - politically, culturally, professionally, personally. It's hard to envision what the future might bring since the recent past has shown us that we don't know half the things we thought we knew. A lot of the best music of the year responded, in one way or another, to that constant uncertainty.

Revolution Girl Style Again!

For someone my age, who came up just after the riot grrrl movement faded from headlines, Bikini Kill's reunion tour is an opportunity to revel in a moment we never lived through. And though Kathleen Hanna has said playing these shows feels like "stepping into a time machine," the show I witnessed at Brooklyn Steel didn’t quite feel like a nostalgic indulgence.

Bruce Springsteen Brings 15 Songs, A Lifetime Of Stories To Broadway

Springsteen On Broadway is absolutely, 100%, a Broadway show. (Sandy) Alex G On 'Idiotsplaining' Rocket, Working With Frank Ocean, & The Business Of Being Himself

“Yo, you ever put pepper on s***?” Alex Giannascoli asks me as he picks up a pepper shaker and begins seasoning the heaping plate of home fries a waiter just placed in front of him. “I like, just started putting pepper on my food. I never touched it before,” he continues. “My sister dumps it on everything. So, one day I tried it for myself and I was just like, ‘F***. This is awesome.’”

At SXSW 2017, Everyone's Talking About Snail Mail

The Snail Mail narrative is one we've heard before. Lindsey Jordan is young. Young enough to still be in high school. She's an accomplished guitarist and songwriter who sounds much wiser than her 17 years. Jordan's been written about by major music sites on the strength of the band's 2016 EP "Habit" and now I imagine every A&R person, booking agent, PR rep in the biz wants to work with her.

Julie Byrne On Vulnerability, Fighting The Pull To Start Over, & Her New Album 'Not Even Happiness'

Julie Byrne is one of the chosen few who can genuinely say she's from "all over." Byrne has led a nomadic existence since leaving her hometown of Buffalo at 18, and is part of a network of artists known nationally for existing neither here nor there, setting up "home" wherever it feels right for a few weeks or a few years.
