QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
It bothered me to see Utley's slide and the way he went after Tejada. Being a 2nd base man he needed to think how to break the DP not his leg.

VIRGIN AMERICA flight 411, JFK to LAX, yesterday afternoon. Just after the doors close, pilot asks how many METS fans are on the plane. Despite the fact that we're in QUEENS, only one or two people make even the slightest peep. Pilot asks for DODGERS fans. Huge HOLLYWOOD roar. Pilot then tells us that CHASE UTLEY's slide was "good, clean baseball." It's unclear what he would have said if it was a METS plane and not a DODGERS plane. Then again, it's unclear how the entire cities of NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES would have responded if the situation had been reversed and it was DANIEL MURPHY hard-sliding into COREY SEAGER. What you think of the slide says as much about you and your fandom as it does about the actual slide. Which, if you ask me, was out of line, in both the literal and figurative senses. But I have my bias, too. I hate seeing players' legs get wrecked. And on that point, it doesn't matter if it was good, clean baseball or bad, dirty baseball. Barrel into someone that hard, at that speed, and there's a good chance you're going to hurt him. And there's just as good a chance, unfortunately, that the umpires will rule in your favor one night, and their bosses will rule against you the next night... Shaking my head, in any case, that UTLEY was called safe. If RUBEN TEJADA doesn't get credit for tagging second on that play, I'm not sure any shortstop should get credit for tagging second on any double-play ball... DAILY FANTASY SPORTS clearly needs adult supervision, if nothing else... What is it about ELI MANNING that turns his receivers' hands (or helmets) into super glue at the most opportune moments?
