Public scrutiny is high for NFL officials, but it pales in comparison to the scrutiny from the league itself
One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding NFL game officials is that they are not held accountable like players and coaches. But after spending 22 years in the league’s officiating department, I can assure you that is not the case. Since 2013, the NFL has hired 34 new game officials — roughly one-quarter of the staff turned over in the last five years.
